Jin Shin Jyutsu®

Art of Living

JIN SHIN JYUTSU® literally translated is:

Jyutsu: Art

Shin: Creator

Jin: Man of Knowing and Compassion

Jin Shin Jyutsu Physio-Philosophy is an ancient healing art used to balance the breath and heal on all levels. This highly specialized type of gentle acupressure introduces us to ourselves and teaches us that we have the innate ability to harmonize and balance body, mind, and spirit.

Our bodies contain several energy pathways, similar to acupuncture meridians, as well as 26 energy points on each side of the body known as Personal Energy Centers (PECs). When these pathways become blocked by the stress of our daily lives, the energy cannot flow properly and becomes stuck at the PECs. That stuck energy manifests as physical/emotional symptoms or projects.

Master Jiro Murai rediscovered Jin Shin Jyutsu, which helped him recover from a terminal illness, in the early 1900s. His student, Mary Burmeister, brought the art to America in the 1950s. Today, this healing art is taught and practiced all over the world.

Remote Jin Shin Jyutsu

In my practice, you can experience the full benefits of Jin Shin Jyutsu from the comfort of your own home. Your healing session unfolds remotely, with deep presence, care, and intention.

During your session, we connect over a secure video call. You’ll relax in a comfortable, quiet space while I work with a proxy doll that mirrors your energy field. Guided by intuitive listening and traditional JSJ pulse reading, I apply gentle hand placements to the doll’s energy points as if I were working directly with you.

This is an energetic attunement, not just visualization. It’s energetic attunement. Clients often describe sensations of warmth, tingling, calm, or emotional release, even laughter or tears in some cases, as their energy begins to move and balance.

After the session, we’ll talk briefly to reflect on what emerged, and I’ll offer simple self-help holds you can use in your daily life to support integration and continued healing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a gentle energy art that helps restore balance in the body, mind, and energy system. It works with your natural capacity to release tension, harmonize energy, and support overall well-being.

Who can benefit from Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Anyone can participate, whether you are new to energy work or have experience. Guided Self‑Help sessions teach step-by-step practices, and Remote Proxy sessions allow you to receive balancing energy while lying down.

How do I know which option is right for me?

If you’d like to learn hands-on tools you can use anytime, the Guided Self-Help session is a good place to start. You’ll practice personalized sequences together and leave with techniques you can return to on your own.

If you’re feeling depleted, overwhelmed, or simply want to lie down and receive support without doing anything, the Remote Proxy session offers deeper rest while I work with your energy for you.

Some clients choose one style, while others alternate between both. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to help you decide.

Do I need any experience?

No experience is required. All sessions include guidance to help you follow along confidently.

What do I need for a session?

A quiet, comfortable space where you can sit or lie down, a device with video and audio, and optional items like a blanket or pillow. No special preparation is required.

How do remote sessions work?

Guided Self‑Help (45 min): You practice personalized sequences with live instruction and feedback.

Remote Proxy Session (75 min): After a brief check-in, you relax while I work with your energy via a proxy doll. We debrief afterward with guidance for integration.

What is a proxy doll?

A proxy doll is a cloth figure that serves as an energetic stand-in for your body. Each of the Personal Energy Centers (PECs) are color coded and sewn onto the doll, corresponding to the same energy points I would use if we were meeting in person. It is a sacred, respectful tool to hold space for your healing process.

What will I feel during or after a session?

Every person’s experience is different. Some feel warmth, lightness, or tingling. Some see colors shifting behind their eyelids. Others may feel emotional shifts, or simply a sense of deep calm. You may fall asleep, and that’s perfectly fine.

Some people don't feel much of anything in the moment. JSJ is a subtle, yet powerful art. So know that even if you don't feel anything, there are shifts happening, and your body is receiving what it needs.

How do I pronounce Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin: with a hard "g" sound like "gin"

Shin: just like the lower leg

Jyutsu: "J" + "you" + "T" + "sue"

I thought they were called Safety Energy Locks?

With Master Jiro Murai first rediscovered this lost art, he revered to these energetic spheres in the body as Eki Ten, meaning "Divine Fluid Being."

Mary began using the term Safety Energy Locks (SELs) when she brought this art to the western world.

The Jin Shin Guild proposed another expression, Personal Energy Center, to demonstrate the connection between our own personal energy and source energy.

Eki Ten, Safety Energy Locks, or Personal Energy Centers all refer to the same locations in the body, just from a slightly different viewpoint.

How often should I schedule sessions?

Frequency depends on your needs. Some clients schedule weekly sessions, while others choose occasional check-ins. We can discuss the right rhythm after your first session.

Will I get anything to keep after the session?

Yes. Guided Self‑Help sessions include a recording for at-home practice. Remote Proxy sessions include session notes and self-care guidance for ongoing integration.

Is Jin Shin Jyutsu safe during pregnancy or with health conditions?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is gentle and non-invasive, but it’s always best to check with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or have a medical condition.

What is a "project" or "challenge"?

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, we avoid the word "Problem" and instead say "Project," or "Challenge." A project or challenge is something you can take steps to solve or complete. In this case, it is a journey you take toward wellness. We also avoid diagnostic labels because that is just the name of a group of symptoms. The goal of Jin Shin Jyutsu is not to treat symptoms, but to get to the underlying root cause so the symptoms don't keep returning or progressing.

As with any project, results may take time. Some people do experience drastic results after just one or two sessions, but it is a cumulative art. So the more often you receive sessions, and the more self-help you do, the better your results will be. For more serious or chronic projects, it is recommended to get 2-3 sessions per week for the first few weeks. Then you can spread them out a little more for maintenance.

"The best way to understand why a disharmony recurs after consistent treatment is to go to the attitudes. The attitudes are at the bottom of everything."
