Mary Burmeister

1918-2008

Mary (Ino) Burmeister â€‹was born in 1918, to Japanese immigrant parents in America.  She travelled to Japan during World War II in order to avoid being sent to live in an internment camp.  When Mary first met Master Jiro Murai in 1946, he asked her, "Would you like to take a gift from Japan to the United States?"  Although she was not interested in returning to America at that time, she immediately accepted his request and began attending his lectures.  She and her father studied with Master Murai for the next 6 years.  Mary moved back to America in 1953 and continued to study for many years through correspondence.  Eventually she began teaching classes based on the two textbooks and three self-help books she created.  In 1986, she trained 4 additional instructors to teach the workshops, and Jin Shin Jyutsu has continued to grow from there.  It is now taught and practiced throughout the world.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Romans 12:2 (Mary's favorite verse)
